Adult Passports
Do you need to renew or reapply?
- Was your recent passport book and/or card issued when you were 16 years old or older?
- Can you submit your recent passport book and/or card with your application?
- Was your recent passport book and/or card issued within the last 15 years?
- Your recent passport book and/or card was NOT damaged (aside from normal wear and tear) and was not reported lost or stolen?
- Your recent passport book and/or card did not have limitations?
- Your name has NOT changed since your recent passport book and/or card?
- If so are you able to submit legal documentation showing your name change?
If you answered yes to ALL of these questions, you can renew your passport through the mail, no appointment in necessary.
We can take photos for you, no appointment needed just walk-in during our business hours.
If you answered no to any of the questions above, you would be reapplying and would need to complete the DS-11 Form and schedule an appointment.
For adults applying for the first time or reapplying here's what you will need to bring to the appointment:
- DS-11 form completed (if hand written must be in black ink with no mistakes)
- Original Proof of Citizenship (Birth Certificate or Certificate of Naturalization
- Original document will go with the application (it will be returned between 4-8 weeks after you receive their passport)
- Photo Copy of Proof of Citizenship
- A photo ID (Identification card, Drivers License, Military ID)
- If they do not have an Identification card or Drivers license, provide secondary forms;
- Social Security Card
- Student ID
- Minor Passport
- Identifying Witness Form DS-71 (form is only available at the facility)
- If they do not have an Identification card or Drivers license, provide secondary forms;
- Photo Copy of ID Front & Back
- Two separate payments (CHECK OR MONEY ORDER ONLY)
- US Department of State
- New Mexico State University
- 2 x 2 Photo (we recommend doing the photos here at the time of the appointment.)

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What if I don’t have a Driver’s License?
A: You can provide two forms of ID like a school or work ID, social security card, learner’s permit, or a DS-71 Identifying Witness form (available at our office). For other acceptable forms of ID visit travel.state.gov.
Q: How long will the passport be valid?
A: Adult passports are valid for 10 years.
Q: Can I renew my passport at your office?
A: Depends, if your passport has been reported lost, stolen, if it’s been damage, or it has been more than 15 years from the date it was issued, or you got it when you 15 years old or younger. Yes.
Or if the above does not apply to you, your renewal is done by mail.
Q: Where is my birth certificate?
A: Birth certificates are submitted with the application and are returned 4-8 weeks after you receive your passports. If it's been more than 4-8 weeks since you received your passport, contact the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778.
Q: Where do I park?
A: There are parking meters in front of our building, you can also park in the free parking to the east of the Pan American Center.
NOTE: If you park in a parking lot that requires a parking permit that is not metered parking or handicapped. You are subject to getting a parking ticket by the NMSU Parking Department. If you did receive a parking ticket please contact the parking department immediately at 575-646-2306.
